Life Coach David Bonham-Carter
I am a UK life coach who specialises in providing telephone life coaching for stress, self esteem, anxiety or related issues and business coaching for small business owners, particularly for those who are wanting to find a way forward in dealing with business stresses or improving life balance.
My professional background prior to becoming a life coach was as a qualified social worker. I have a Masters Degree in social work from the University of Kent passed with distinction. Before becoming a life coach I practised for a number of years as a social worker and probation officer helping people with mental health difficulties, homeless people, young people and offenders to make significant personal and practical changes in their lives.
As part of my initial two year full time social work training course and subsequently in practice as a qualified social worker I received training in several different methods of intervention including:
- CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (particularly helpful in dealing with negative thought patterns, stress, depression and anxiety)
- Motivational Interviewing (effective as a model for helping people to change or break difficult habits)
- Person centred therapeutic techniques, such as Gerard Egan's personal centred counselling model and Carl Rogers' person centred counselling model.
- Transactional Analysis
- Brief Therapy (also known as Solution Focused Therapy) - helpful in creating positive thinking strategies.
Since becoming a life coach, I have received additional training in techniques such as NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and have adapted my social work skills and expertise to helping private clients through coaching sessions to make productive personal and professional changes. I have also written a number of articles on stress management, life coaching techniques and related topics, including for example an article for life coaches written for the Association for Coaching's Bulletin on applying a particular model of change to the life coaching field (see Association for Coaching Article). Feedback on the benefits of coaching sessions written by some of my life coaching and business coaching clients can be viewed at the link below:
I have appeared on BBC Radio and been invited to appear on TV to give life coaching advice on a variety of different matters.
As a business coach for small businesses, I have not only my own experience as a small business owner to fall back on but also training and experience in the legal profession (Before I became a social worker I qualified and worked as a commercial solicitor for a few years in London prior to embarking on a change of career direction to move into the helping professions as a social worker). My legal experience gave me a grounding and training in business matters, accounts and an analytical way of thinking which has been much appreciated by business clients. Further information about the business coaching that I provide and how it differs from business consultancy can be found at the link below:
