Life Coach David Bonham-Carter

I provide a specialist telephone life coaching service combining traditional life coaching with CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy techniques) for clients in the UK and internationally, helping with issues such as stress, self esteem, making life changes or dilemmas in relationships, career and other areas. I also provide business coaching to UK small businesses - details of that service are given below.

I have worked successfully as a life coach for a number of years covering the above areas. My professional background prior to becoming a life coach was as a qualified social worker. I have a Masters Degree in social work from the University of Kent which I passed with distinction. I am also an Affiliate Member of the Association for Coaching and I have a Masters Degree in Philosophy.

I have helped hundreds of people to make important changes through life coaching sessions and through the dissemination of practical coaching and cognitive behavioural therapy techniques via my Life Coaching Books.

Before becoming a life coach I practised for a number of years as a social worker and probation officer in difficult environments, helping people with mental health disorders, homeless people, young people and offenders to make significant personal and practical changes in their lives.

During this period I learned and used at first hand a number of theoretical models for helping people making changes which are listed below and which I then developed further on setting up my own life coaching business. I regard this foundation working with people at the hard end of life's struggles as well as facilitating change in people consumed by addictive behaviour as invaluable experience. It helped to give me insight into the most effective ways of helping people to deal with personal and practical problems in life and when faced with the most difficult of circumstances. It also gave me a wealth of professional background experience even before becoming a life coach which most life coaches fresh out of life coaching college simply do not have.

Training in Models of Change

Before becoming a life coach I received training in several different methods of intervention including:

Life Coaching Articles & Books

During my life coaching career, I have written a number of articles on stress management, life coaching techniques and related topics, contributing to professional discussion and development within the coaching industry, including for example an article for life coaches written for the Association for Coaching's Bulletin on applying Prochaska and DiClemente's model of change of change (used by professionals in the field of addictions) to the life coaching field.

I have also written a number of practical and easy to follow life coaching ebooks for use either in self help or as resources for life coaches in their own practice, which can be purchased from this website and give a good introduction to some of the techniques I use in coaching - for more information go to: Life Coaching Books.

Crisis Management

I also have particular skills in crisis management, which can be relevant to both individuals seeking personal coaching and to business clients, combined with a knowledge of a variety of techniques for facilitating professional and personal development. I have considerable experience in assisting people to respond to stressful or problematic situations and to address a variety of different kinds of life difficulties. I am a calm and supportive individual.

Business Coaching Service

I also provide business coaching for small business owners, particularly for those who are wanting to find a way forward in dealing with business stresses or improving life balance.

As a business coach, I have not only my own experience as a small business owner to fall back on but also training and experience working in the legal profession from my very first career (Before I became a social worker I qualified and worked as a commercial solicitor for a few years in London prior to embarking on a change of career direction to move into the helping professions as a social worker). My legal experience gave me a grounding and training in business matters, accounts and an analytical way of thinking which has been much appreciated by business clients. Further information about the business coaching that I provide can be found at: Business Coaching Service.

Executive Coaching Service

I also provide an executive coaching service of which details can be found at: Executive Coaching Service.

Location and International Experience

I currently live and work primarily in Bristol but I also maintain professional and family links with London. The life coaching sessions that I offer are usually provided over the telephone and my service has been used - and can be used - successfully by people internationally as well as from all over the United Kingdom. On countless occasions I have witnessed the power of people to achieve positive life changes and I believe in the potential and value of those I work with. My coaching service is to help you not to judge you.

My coaching sessions are built around research into effective methods of facilitating progress. They focus on your personal values and goals to help you move towards a vision of where you want to be and to help you realise your personal development goals. The extra element of CBT (cognitive behavoural therapy techniques) allows for additional assistance to help you overcome mental or emotional stumbling blocks if you are experiencing these. This additional CBT element complements the practical life coaching focus and gives an extra dimension to the coaching.
