Thinking Through a Dilemma
If you are caught in a dilemma where there is a decision you have to make or a difficult situation that you have to deal with, it can be helpful to follow a structured approach to thinking through the dilemma and deciding how you want to act.
Below are 7 questions you can ask yourself to help you reach a decision as to what to do:
1. What is the dilemma you face?
2. How do you feel about being in this dilemma?
3. What are your practical options? List them in a table like that below, setting out the advantages and disadvantages of each option (Add more rows if you need to explore more than three options):

4. Is there anyone you can talk to who might be able to give you helpful advice on what to do about the dilemma you face?
5. Is there any way that you can try out an approach to dealing with the dilemma to see if it works without a great deal of risk?
6. How do you think you can best deal with any uncomfortable feelings while you are in this dilemma?
7. In the light of your answers above, what (if anything) is the first/next step you want to take?
