Improving Wellbeing

I believe that people often focus on making changes before they have given some simple thought to the ultimate outcomes that they want.

In my view the ultimate outcomes that many people (including myself) actually want, when they stop to think for a moment, relate not to possessions or events or things but to intangible matters - matters of wellbeing, such as 'being happier' or feeling more relaxed' or 'improving the quality of close relationships'.

Let's try to keep this simple:

1. What is an outcome in terms of your wellbeing (such as happiness, quality of relationships, health etc) that you would like to move towards? Write it down:

2. What is one change in:

(a) The way you usually act and/or

(b) The way you think

that if you start to make it is likely to help to move you nearer towards the outcome you specified in 1.

Example:

1. My desired outcome: To feel more relaxed

2. Proposed change to help towards an outcome: Don't get so worked up about things.

So my plan for the next few weeks is consciously to try not to get so worked up in response to the kind of things that in the past have triggered me into irritation/anger/anxiety/self-recrimination/frustration etc.

What is Your Plan?
